The PretenderJust found out that The Pretender (first season) will be released on March 22. I used to like this “James Bond kind like” series. Worth to remember: Miss Parker and the end credits theme.

Also on the news: Coldplay new album X&Y (already on CD-Wow pre-sale). I can’t wait to get my hands on the mp3’s…

Meet the FockersYou can now have the list and data about the portuguese BoxOffice on ICAM’s website (the portuguese institute for movies and media). Last week’s figures show that we love “Meet the Fockers“, wich had 97.810 spectators making €414.608,67 . On the overall, Brad Bird’s “The Incredibles” is the winner with €1.425.761,54 resulting from 71 session days.

Xvid vs Hollywood

A nice article about Hollywood movie leakeage: Pirating the Oscar 2005 Screeners, where you can see if the “industry’s evolving efforts to plug the leaks were any more effective this year”.
Why the strange “Xvid” text in the title? It’s the common format for screeners downloaded on the web (Divx mirrored).

Also don’t forget to see the Oscar’s nominees here or on the official site. I still have to watch:

  • “The Aviator” (Miramax, Initial Entertainment Group and Warner Bros.)
  • “Finding Neverland” (Miramax)
  • “Million Dollar Baby” (Warner Bros.)
  • “Ray” (Universal)
  • “Sideways” (Fox Searchlight/20th Century Fox)

The future of the DVD

Hollywood has dictated the future of dvd’s:

Three Hollywood studios have chosen to embrace next-generation DVD technology backed by Toshiba, snubbing a rival product promoted by Sony.

Paramount, Universal and Warner Brothers are to use a high definition DVD format backed by Toshiba and NEC.

Their decision is a setback for Sony which famously lost the battle to set a standard for video cassette recorders when its Betamax lost out to JVC’s VHS.

Toshiba expects sales of HD-DVDs to hit 300bn yen ($2.9bn; £1.5bn) by 2010.

Clearer pictures

Next-generation DVDs can record an entire film in high definition format, ensuring sharper pictures.
