Damien RiceI just can’t believe that I’ve missed Damien Rice’s album “O” back in 2003… Sure I listened to “The Blower’s Daughter” and “Cannonball” (amazing songs!), but believe it or not, the whole album keeps up to that standard.

If you don’t know this album/singer, do yourself a favour and and buy it/download it!

More info about him on All Music and the fan site Eskimo Friends.

Even CNN recommends him:

”Unplayed Piano,” Damien Rice and Lisa Hannigan The best reason to get this lovely track (on iTunes): Proceeds will benefit Nobel winner Aung San Suu Kyi

U2No, unfortunately I didn’t went to see them yesterday. Not only I had a wedding (August is wedding season here in Portugal) as my chances of getting a ticket were quite slim… My fiancé was quite disappointed being a huge fan of the Irish band (and one of many people that were in their Popmart Tour 1997 concert), but there was nothing I could do…

Odeo Podcasts

Odeo PodcastLittle by little I’m finding portuguese podcasters: http://blitzkrieg-bop.blogspot.com/ and http://radio-logia.blogspot.com/ seem to be very well known.

Abroad, the podcast scene has a new develpment with Odeo.com.

Its tagline is “Explore the World of Podcasting: Play, Download, and Create MP3s about Interesting Things” and I think it is a good description.

You can read a review of this service here:

Finding podcasts to listen to is a breeze: shows can be tagged, commented on by other uses (think Flickr here), individual podcasts (called “shows”) can be added to your queue to check if this podcast feed (called “channel”) is worth it, and subscribing to channels is a one click process. This is how you find podcasts. You then have to download the Odeo Syncr (a one-time download) which checks your queue when you tell it to, and downloads the podcasts to your computer.

A partir de hoje pode fazer chamadas GRÁTIS para Portugal GRÁTIS por TEMPO ILIMITADO

update [29-October-2005]
Acabaram-se as borlas. Agora, ligar para a rede fixa nacional custa 1 cêntimo por minuto.

update [29-09-2005]
I´ve just bought €1 of credit on VoIPBuster.
All my calls to portuguese landline phones are free and unlimited, as announced.
The money will be spent making calls to Dominican Republic €0,09 /minute, real cheap!
The advantage of VoIPBuster over Skype Out or the portuguese IOL Talki, is the ability to buy only €1.

VoIP BusterA strange thing that no one in Asterisco as talked about VoIP Buster program.
Its a little app that allows you make free phone call to landline numbers for free.

That’s right. Install the program and dial on it your home number 00351 255 555 555 (just an example) and you’re making a free phone call to your uncle.

And there’s no catch, it is really free with some minor drawbacks:

  • the call is time limited (1 minute and a half)
  • only landline numbers (rede fixa)

Also, If you want unlimited free calls, all you have to do is go to their website and buy 1 euro credit.

For portuguese users you might want to know that VoIPBuster counts as international traffic at about 25MB per hour.

My advice is for you to try it.
Install it and reboot your machine if your having problems with the sound quality. It worked fine with me after rebooting.
