MSN Maps

The response to Google’s Maps from Microsoft: MSN Virtual Earth
MSN Virtual Earth
Javascript powered, looks nice but the zoom feature only goes till 50% on Portugal. More zoom is available on EUA, but not full zoom. They are still working on it as this is a Beta version.

It worked nicely with Firefox but seems more slick with Internet Explorer. Unlike Google, here you have the name of the country/city/street you’re seeing.

A nice feature is the “Locate Me” based on your IP. In my case it emidiatly took me from the US to Portugal.

Enough said. Stop reading this an explorer yourself!

Windows Vista
Your next Windows operative system will be called Vista. Microsoft has decided the official name for what was until now called Longhorn.

Beta 1 of Vista is expected to be unveiled next week. Beta 2 is due in the first half of 2006 (if all goes well).

TMN flaw on VAT

Posted: July 22nd, 2005 | Author: Vitor | Filed under: Mobile & Symbian, Portugal | 4 Comments »

If you are a TMN (major portuguese cell phone company) customer, you’ll receive a credit in you cellphone soon.

It seems that they started charging the calls with 21% VAT sooner than legally allowed, and are now compensating their customers for it.

My sim card was credited with €0,52.

Another flaw of the company is with the Walkie-Talkie/Push to Talk technology. Vodafone and Optimus have their offers on the market, and still no sign of TMN’s plans in this field..
Shame on you.

Blog Tips Plugin

If you scroll down to my blog’s footer you can see my latest plugin: Blog Tips.
The idea is to tell my visitors some random facts about my website and me. It works by simply retrieving random posts from a new category that was created.

I would like to apologize to Asterisco readers that got some “stupid” single-line posts like “Did you know that …”.
I filtered the “blog tips” category posts in my main page but completely forgot the rss feeds…
