DVDs in Portugal

For the 3rd year, I bought my brother’s school books on the internet (Webboom). 5 books took 15 days to arrive from Oporto city (70km), and I even had o pay shipping.
Last month I bought Pixar DVD Collection. 5 dvds took 5 days to arrive from Sweden (a whole lot far that Oporto!) with free shipping.
How is this possible? Scale economies? Portuguese firms inefficiency? Maybe both…
Another subject that deserves some attention is the cultural exclusion that Portuguese people face concerning dvds. Our internal market is very weak, with a small offer and big prices. Mário Dorminsky – director of the Portuguese film festival “Fantasporto” – has already written some words about this on this month Premiere´s PT edition.
He speaks in the case of people who try to buy dvds abroad that don´t exist in our country, and are sometimes (specially on zone 1 dvds) charged with high tax rates on the portuguese custom.
